Partial Solar Eclipse tonight!!!

Make sure you take some time this evening to observe the partial solar eclipse. We will not have another of this variety until 2023.

Start time is around: 5:00 p.m. with our visibility best around 5:45.

More information about the event is summarized at the Weather Channel at:
http://www.weather.com/news/science/partial-solar-eclipse-thursday-20141022

Additional information can be found here:

Remember to never stare in to the sun. It will harm your eyes.!

The best way to view the event will be through a filtered lense or by making a pinhole camera.

Here are some simple directions for making a pinhole camera:

If you are able to take some photos or video (while being safe)...I would love to post them here tomorrow!

Animal tracking...observation skills

As we continue to look and further develop our observation and inference skills, our classes went outside today to look at animal tracks and tracking boxes.

The tracks were set up in baited with peanut butter last night. This is what we saw in the morning…

Tracking boxes...baseline

Below are some pictures from the tracking boxes taken last night after they were baited.

Welcome back!

Sir Ken Robinson speaks about creativity in schools. He mentions a study found in the book Breakpoint and Beyond: Mastering the Future Today, by George Land and Beth Jarman.

He talks specifically about students' ability (or inability) to come up with multiple uses for a paper clip. Our 6th grade class took on this challenge today in class. This is what we came up with!
